The Difference Between Gospel Rap and Hip Hop!
As I was doing my research on the history of Gospel rap I discover that this genre of music has been around for a long time. The first commercially released and distributed Gospel rap album was Stephen Wiley’s 1985 album Bible Break, distributed by Benson Music Group. Later along came West Coast Phenom T-bone and East coast Christiano, and Dirty South Pettidee, Gospel Gangsters, Grits, D.C. talk, Toby Mac, Soldiers for Christ, JC & The Boyz, Dynamic Twins, MC Peace, and emcee Danny “D-Boy” Rodriguez. Now the movement started in the 1970′s and now in my opinion it has dominated the music industry. You can watch many of documentaries online and on DVD where artist have sold their souls just to become rich or famous. Some people believe it’s a cult because so many artists will do anything to make it in the music industry.
Now from my understanding Hip Hop is not something that you do but its something you can be apart of like a church or organization. Now in this day of time we have artists such as Flame, The Ambassador, Everlasting Souljas, Purified, Willie Will, Lecrae, Trip Lee, Sho Baraka, KJ-52, Blaze, modern messiahs, Andale, Mydnite sun, True Black, Da prince, Mo better, Ruff styles, Chance Code, and Tedashii see themselves as preachers or ministers who proselytize to non-Christians or try to preach a Christian message using beats or Christian rap as a medium.
Some churches, Gospel rappers, Gospel rap artist and rappers in general really don’t understand the true meaning of Hip Hop. Now I believe it’s a culture and a religion based on my study & research. Gospel is the Good news of Jesus Christ and rap is a form of communication. I was doing a study in the Word of God on music and doing my research online of Hip-Hop. I realize you can’t mix the two because hip hop pretty much is a organization and it has it own fate & faith. That’s just like me trying to mix Islam with Christianity; you can’t because they are two different religions. I pose a question what if the word Hip Hop means a female dog (the curse word)?
Can you have a holy female dog, I don’t believe so It is either you are clean or you dirty because light and dark can’t fellowship. Now like I told you earlier Gospel is the Word of God or the good news of Jesus Christ and rap is a term use to communicate with someone, so it’s nothing wrong rapping. However when you consider yourself a Christian Hip Hop artist or a Hip Hop artist in general you are involve in a culture or a sub-culture. I’m not telling anyone to stop doing Christian rap or Gospel Rap or but what I am saying is do your research before you called yourself a Christian Hip Hop artist. You will find some information on its origin that is very interested.
It’s best to know the truth because the truth will make you free. Now some of you probably think that I am being judgmental or disrespectful towards the game. I am not being disrespectful at all but I am providing a truth about the culture and the origin of Hip Hop and Gospel Rap. Just Google or research both of them and you will discover the difference between the two. Now God did create Hip Hop but the movement has taking its own course through the minds of people. Now God wants to use Gospel Rap to steer his truth back into the organization and music in this earth rim. Its Just like Religion, God wants to impart one faith, one lord, one baptism back into the minds of the people. But he can’t force people to follow him or his way of doing because of free will.
You probably are asking me, is this culture of the devil or the world. Well, in this century or time of age the Hip Hop organization doesn’t promote the Kingdom of God. There are different Gospel rappers out there now trying to change the organization to Holy Hip Hop but the only probably is the Hip Hop part not the Holy part. What I am saying to the entire Gospel Rap industry that’s ministering for the kingdom of God.
Let the Hip Hop organization serves its purpose, but your job is to promote the Kingdom of God through Gospel rap. Now everything and everyone serves a purpose in this earth rim but we can’t change what God made. He said in his word in Genesis that everything he made was good but because Adam and eve sin everything on earth became corrupt and perverted. A lot of Hip Hop artist promote drugs, violence, getting rich, gang banging, how many women they can sleep with, becoming famous, etc.
He created Lucifer but now he has been kicked out of heaven on earth to serve his purpose until Jesus Come back. Now we can’t change Satan back unto Lucifer or even try to add some good to Satan to try to make him good. Satan is who is and he has to serve his purpose until his time is up. So remember Hip Hop is a culture and Gospel rap is rapping the Word of God. I hope this was helpful on getting you some understanding on the difference between Gospel rap and Hip Hop.
